Lead Acid Battery Manufacturing Facility Demolition and Decontamination, Hanover Township, Pennsylvania

DeNovo Constructors was retained to provide demolition and decontamination services of an active lead acid battery manufacturing facility. The 40,000 square foot facility contained a lead foundry, lead plate formation area, battery assembly area, dry charge area, waste water treatment plant, dust collection system, air compressors, and lavatory, shower and locker rooms. The objective of the lead abatement and demolition was to decommission and remove all of the contaminated tools, equipment, utilities and services, and materials that were used in conjunction with the production of lead-acid batteries.

In addition to the execution of the demolition and decontamination activities on-site, DeNovo was also responsible for Health and Safety Plans, Air Monitoring, Permits and Licenses, regulated material disposal, materials recycling, sampling and characterization. The designated areas were cleaned of all lead residues to a cleanliness level equal to or less than 200 micrograms per W for all walls and vertical surfaces, and 40 micrograms per square foot for floors and horizontal surfaces. The cleanliness levels were confirmed by independent testing.

DeNovo completed this project without incident, ahead of schedule, and within budget.
